Playing poker on the internet is somewhat different than playing people face to face. For one thing, you're not face to face. The aspect of sizing up your opponent by the way they react to cards or raises is not available. The speed of the game is greatly increased, allowing you to be more choosey about the hands you play. If you don't take advantage of that situation, you will quickly be reminded that others do.

One thing I'd like you to note right away is that there are some software programs available now which unscrupulous players are using that advises them on perfect play, computing such things are pot-odds etc, which by itself is an intimidating thought, but there is also the possibility that this software may share information amongst its users; therefore advising player 4 to fold his pocket jacks because the software knows that player 6 has pocket aces, or perhaps it would tell player 4 to raise knowing it is going to advise player 6 to reraise and then advise player 4 to fold, but this all happens while you at player 5, are caught in the middle and therefore allowing that extra reraise to happen to you; that sort of thing. At the time of this writing however, this software is only used successfully in the fixed limit ring games. This due to the fact the software can successfully compute pot odds since it knows what the maximum amount of money may be bet at any one time. The software is kept on a separate PC from the one that the poker game is played on, so there is no way the pokerroom software can detect whether the cheating software is being used. All things considered, I'd suggest you stick to a different game until you hear there has been a solution to the problem. Keep in mind that may never happen since the cheating software is used on a separate PC. I suspect that eventually the "perfect-play" software will be allowed (currently it is not; as the poker room software searches every player's PC to see if it is being used, thus the reason the software began the ability to be kept on a separate PC), in order to help level the field of play for player who are trying to play an honest game.

When playing tournament games, play only the best of hands and keep in mind that if you can walk into the higher priced blinds with at least half of your starting bankroll that you will have an excellent chance of finishing in the money. If you're lucky, you'll get a good hand at the start and usually there is some fool willing to give away their money as soon as the gate drops and cards hit the table. So its usually safe to go all in against such an opponent but remember that's only early on and when the table is full.
